NEW BARGE TRIPLES ROCK CARGO CAPACITY

NEW BARGE TRIPLES ROCK CARGO CAPACITY

KML have invested in a new barge which will triple its cargo carrying capacity as part of their continued expansion.

The flat top barge, ‘Selina’, was purchased in Sweden and following her arrival at KML’s base in Cornwall, she was mobilised as a heavy grade rock carrier.

Working alongside the company’s other barge, ‘Mormaen 15’, ‘Selina’ will enable the company to significantly expand its rock armour carrying capacity and offer reduced delivery times and increases in scale and efficiency to their clients.

‘Selina’ is currently being loaded with Cornish granite which will be exported from Falmouth to a project in Hastings. This contract follows recent successful projects at Hinkley Point and Hollicombe in Devon, amongst others.

KML are committed to providing the most suitable rock source for each individual project. For many of its recent projects, the company has been proud to supply locally sourced “dimension stone” granite by working with Chywoon Quarry near Falmouth. Both parties are pleased to be part of a process which means that there are once again large scale exports of granite from the port after a gap of over 40 years.

Commenting from Falmouth, KML’s Managing Director, Diccon Rogers says, “The arrival of ‘Selina’ is another milestone in the growth of our fleet and will enable us to significantly improve the rock armour services we can provide to our clients in terms of supply, delivery and placement for coastal protection schemes.”
