CASE STUDY 1 : LIFTING SERVICES - TIDAL TURBINE

Location: Orkney

Scope of works:

KML crane barge BD6074 is required to lift a tidal turbine during the operations for deployment and retrieval, and maintenance on the quayside.  The turbine weight is >125te - the following lifts are required:

  • Lift from Transport to cradles on arrival
  • Rotation of turbine on Quayside
  • Launch of turbine into water from Quayside
  • Recovery of turbine from water
  • Emergency contingency lift
  • Miscellaneous service lifts using the crane barge including mobilisation of equipment to vessels and equipment associated with turbine operations

On the significant and exciting arrival of the new turbine, KML conducted and carried out the safe lift to unload and place the device onto its quayside cradles.

CASE STUDY 2 : LIFTING SERVICES - TIDAL DEVICE

Location: Orkney

Scope of works:

Provision of Marine Heavy Lift spread including Company Heavy Lift vessel 'BD6074' at Orkney to conduct marine heavy lifts of the Client's experimental tidal turbine with a total below the Hook Lift Weight of >100 metric tonnes. Lifts were discharged from delivery ship and lifts from afloat to pier deck and vice versa, always within the safe working limits of the equipment. KML provided Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor and Lift Planning services. KML provided a successful, timely and cost effective service to the client who made the following comment:

I just wanted to say thank you for the lift last week and that it was a pleasure working with you all.  Everything went like clockwork and in fact it was quite an enjoyable day!”

CASE STUDY 3 : LIFTING SERVICES - LNG ARM

Scope of works:

Initially KML were asked to determine feasibility, and provide timescale and budget / OOM costs for specialist heavy lift services to remove, relocate and subsequently refit unloading arm at one of the UK's LNG Terminals. The methodology including mobilisation of flat top pontoon with 300te crane and associated costs were accepted and KML were contracted to carry out the work which was done successfully, on time and in budget.

Supply crane barge with suitable lift capacity for <100te tidal turbine, lifting equipment and crew to carry out a range of lifts as required. KML have a very successful history on this project and scope includes:
