KML’s Geologist named Young Professional of the Year

We are delighted to report that Emily Broad, our in-house geologist, has been named Young Professional of the Year at an industry conference in Portugal.

Emily won the award for her paper entitled ‘Factors affecting Rock Armour Yield in Cornish Granites’ which highlighted the unique benefits of Cornish granite for coastal protection schemes and KML’s close working relationship with Chywoon Quarry near Falmouth.

She presented her paper at the annual Armourstone Users Group meeting in Porto which brought together leading industry professionals to discuss latest developments about the use of armourstone for coastal defences and breakwaters in the UK and around the world.

Emily, a graduate of Bristol University, works at KML as in-house geologist and project engineer working closely with the quarry and supporting the company’s many rock armour projects.

KML’s Managing Director, Diccon Rogers, was delighted by Miss Broad’s win. Commenting from Falmouth Wharves, he said, “We are very proud of Emily’s achievements. Her paper showcased the many benefits of Cornish granite and it was great that she was able promote KML’s work in rock armour and coastal defences and our close working relationship with Chywoon Quarry on an international stage.”

He added, “KML’s is proud to be one of the UK’s leading organisations for the supply, delivery and placement of granite armourstone. We are currently exporting Chywoon granite from Falmouth Wharves to Brixham where we are working on improvements to Victoria Breakwater for Torbay Development Agency.
