KML's MD speaks at Decommissioning Conference

KML’s Managing Director, Diccon Rogers, was one of the speakers at the recent Offshore Decommissioning Conference which was held in St Andrews, Scotland.

The key objective of this annual conference is to bring together a wide spectrum of oil and gas companies; supply chain companies and contractors to share the latest decommissioning updates, trends and case studies.

Diccon was invited to join a group of speakers focusing on the subject of ‘Decommissioning in Practice – Getting the Job Done’.

His presentation titled ‘Cost Effective Decommissioning of Seabed Mounted Renewable Energy Structure in Tidal Race’ covered the learnings gained from KML’s successful decommission of the seabed anchored tidal energy device, ‘SeaGen’, in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.

Located in a tidal race, both a Marine Conservation Zone and a Special Area of Conservation and with a limited budget, safety, the environment and cost-effectiveness were central in the successful delivery of this unique decommissioning scope.

Diccon’s presentation outlined how KML’s team chose the selected methodology to overcome the project’s restraints and the valuable lessons learnt for the wider decommissioning sector.
